Gaussianness of Imaging Measurements

چکیده
In this chapter, we will explore various methods for checking Gaussianness of measurements data. Since many statistical models assume normality, so checking if imaging data follows normality is fairly important. Also image smoothing not only increases the smoothness of underlying image intensity values, but it also increases the normality of data.In paper submission to various imaging journals, this is an often asked question by reviewers.

On the Decrease Rate of the Non-Gaussianness of the Sum of Independent Random Variables
Several proofs of the monotonicity of the nonGaussianness (divergence with respect to a Gaussian random variable with identical second order statistics) of the sum of n independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) random variables were published. We give an upper bound on the decrease rate of the non-Gaussianness which is proportional to the inverse of n, for large n. The proof is based on ...
متن کاملEffect of Slice Thickness on the Accuracy of Linear Measurements Made on Cone Beam Computed Tomography Images (InVitro
Objective: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is applied for the imaging of the maxillofacial and dental structures, particularly for surgical treatments and dental implants. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of slice thickness on the accuracy of CBCT linear measurements. Methods: In this diagnostic accuracy study, forty-two titanium pins with the same dimensions were inserted...
متن کاملSimultaneous measurement of water flow velocity with fluorescent and speckle imaging technique
The average velocity of water flow has been simultaneously measured with fluorescent and speckle imaging methods. The measured velocities with two methods are in good agreement with each other and it confirms that the speckle imaging method can be used as a confident method to measure the velocity of water flow in a dry leaf. Also the velocity of water flow through thick and thin xylems of a le...
متن کاملAssessment of Reproducibility of Geometric Distortion in MRI using Phantom Measurements
Introduction: Image distortion is one of the major problems of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for use in 3DMRI, velocity MRI, FMRI and radiotherapy treatment planning (RTTP). It is widely known that the most obvious effect of the inhomogenity of the magnetic fields and the nonlinearity of the gradient is the Geometric Distortion of MR tomograms. In this study, the...
متن کاملDesign and Construction of an Affordable Phantom for Electron Density Measurement and Linearity Tests of Computed Tomography Systems
Introduction: The performance of computed tomography is routinely checked using phantoms, which are known as important diagnostic imaging tools. Depending upon the aim of the study, different phantoms are designed, while trying to satisfy certain levels of diversities in their application. Material and Methods: The present study describes the...
